It was really cool, diesel 5-speed with good pull at really low rpms. Leather front seats alcantara rear. Black on black with wood trim. Looked pretty upscale like a Kia Optima these days. Interesting note, the rear butt warmers were opposite. I warmed my wifes buns, not mine.

Was it a twindoor or an estate? Sounds like the model we call the Elegance in the U.K.

It's a shame they are deleting the twindoor for a simple rear hatch.

Sorry I meant the specification for the Superb sounds like the Elegance spec.

The ones above are the Skoda Superb Mk2 pre-facelift.

It's really cool to see Czech have such a seemingly robust car manufacturer. Especially after such a short amount of time out of communism.

Skoda make everything from cars to trains. Skoda Automotive was sold to VW making it part of the VAG group which I think really helped it the most. At first after the VW purchase they pretty much got VWs left overs but Skoda put little touches in here and there and tried to make them their own. With the later models they really took to making that more real and VW had to delist some of the free items and options or make them cost options as people were meant to aspire to buy an inexpensive Skoda or Seat and then move up and buy an Audi or VW and so on but Skoda were taking people away from VW and even Audi as they saw that the car was built to the same standards, usually better specced and much cheaper.

I mean what would you go for, a VW Golf or a Skoda Octavia? Same chassis, engine and gearbox but the Skoda has a few more little things that make it just right oh and a few thousand dollars left in your wallet.

It's funny , one of the locals in Prague told me they though skodas were inferior in quality to German cars. She was driving an old skoda. I wonder if they made that same transition up market that Kia has?

I think Kia did it gradually here in the U.K. where I think Skoda got slightly better over a longer period but no one cared and suddenly Skoda just went 'WILL YOU PEOPLE JUST LOOK AT ME FOR A SECOND!', and people were like 'they are just Skodas, but seem okay for the money', then after a while 'ruddy hell, these are good cars'.
